Piripi is a new Spanish restaurant by Chef Najat Kaanache located in one of the corners of Village of Merrick Park in Coral Gables.

For everyone who’s been wondering what piripi means: is a Spanish word that describe the feeling of a little happiness after a drink.

I wanted to try the new place and went for tapas after work.

The restaurant has siting inside and outside and in the middle a big bar. It a decent sized restaurant but during busy hours will definitely need reservations to get a tablet. One thing I loved about the restaurant is that the kitchen is open but incased with glass windows and you can see when the chef is preparing your meals: best view from the bar. 20150417_194711

One thing I didn’t like was that there was not a wide selection in the food or cocktail in menu and also it was expensive. Is overpriced and will definitely leave feeling hungry if you only have the tapas (portions are small).

We started with a cocktail don’t really remember what the name of them were but both were very good.  Mine obviously sweet but could definitely identify the different favors.

And then ordered the 3 way soiree which is a sampler platter with chorizo, salchichón, and lomo served with one piece of toasted buttery bread.

I was a small serving for a high price $26, I felt like I wanted more and even the bread I wanted more. Was disappointed. I do have to mention that the taste was authentic and the favors were definitely fresh.

I also saw the Spanish omelet the someone next to me ordered and was small too so decided to call it quits and go eat somewhere else (plus could not bear the complaint next to me “I’m still hungry”) and order the tab a bulking $60+ for 2 drinks an a small appetizer. Wow. Not worth it. The service was also nothing spectacular, is was normal but definitely not for the location didn’t meet my expectations. I would might consider to go back to try an entrée but suspect that I won’t be satisfied both with service or with the food.
