Green Plate Asian Bistro

This is a fairly new Asian Restaurant with weekend buffet.

Decided to go on a Saturday afternoon to take advantage of the buffet. The place from outside does not seem like much and it looks small. It is big inside and the decorations are very nice. It is a layback atmosphere with modern Asian look, with Baraboo and when you walk in, there is a small glass walkway,  I have to admit I was a bit hesitant because definitely was not expecting that. When you walk in there is a bar right in the center and the buffet is pass the bar you have to walk up about 4 steps.

I had called ahead of time and made reservations but when I went in it was completely empty so I didn’t say I had a reservation and was seated but then when the hostess came to bring the menu asked if I had made reservations as if there was a problem because I had not. Again the place was empty but still in said I had a reservation and then they “checked me in.”

This place is not your typical Asian Buffet the actual buffet selection is small but good quality. The price is $28 and it include two tapas to share from a wide menu selection and access to the buffet.  They also have mimosas for $2 and a wide selection of other cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks.

I ordered a mimosa it took a while to come even though I was siting a few steps from the bar. The second round took even longer.

From the wide array of tapas I ordered the waffles and crispy chicken. In general I am not a fan of the sweet waffles and salty chicken but this was delicious it was topped with a sweet sauce that had a cream cheese taste and of course very crispy bacon.

I also ordered the pork belly bubble. I really like this and order it every time I get a chance. The bread was freshly made and the cucumber salad inside was very fresh the pork was very disappointing it just had no meat at all. I couldn’t eat it.

Also ordered a avocado salad it was very good with a hint of citrus very fresh; wacamole style served inside a California avocado skin. Delicious. Also had the steamed dumplings with seafood it was just average.

For the selection of the buffet there was pecan chicken salad that was delicious with big pieces of chicken and good amount of pecans in every bit. Was sweet so for those who don’t like the sweet and salty style would not recommend it. The raw bar included salmon and tuna slices in a vinaigrette sauce and oysters.  There were also cooked snow crab legs, muscles, and large shrimp. Other things in the buffet were chicken wings, tempura calamari, mozzarella, green salad, seaweed salad, and veggy rolls. Amazingly delicious was the crab wonton it said it was snow crab with manchego cheese. Not too sure it was manchego cheese (it is my favorite cheese so I can recognize the taste) but really did not matter because they were amazing, crispy, and toasty with a good amount of the mix inside I had to have several.

The sushi selection was not too wide about 8 to 10 different types but all were very good and fresh specially the shrimp tempura.

I also tried the lobster bisque was very good,  with pieces of lobster inside and the right amount of spicy.

Dessert were all bit size and shot style. The chocolate mouse was very good smooth and fluffy. There was something else with dulce de leche on top that was very good too.

Green Plate

Overall,  great ambience, family friendly,  not your typical buffet. Service was good our plates were removed promptly but some improvement are needed with the drinks the mimosas took very long and the place was empty.
