La Boca House is a small cozy restaurant in great location. Finding parking was an easy because there is public street parking and also right in front there is a public garage.
When on a Thursday at 7pm. There were only a few people in the restaurant which made me wonder why since they had happy hour and prix dinner menu with drinks at a great price. They have a cool concept for drinks at happy hour you roll a dice and pay the amount shown in the dice for the drinks (love it when it lands on 1).
We were seated immediately, the hostess and waiter were very nice.
They have a spectacular selection of signature drinks, all sounded great so we asked the waiter for his opinion. He suggested the “Peach Whiskey Sour: Michter’s Bourbon, White Peach Puree, Fresh Pressed Lime Sour. ” Wow it was divine, not too sweet and perfect amount of bourbon. Very good.
Appetizers
” Miami Mac Don Avocado Mac & Cheese Bowl: Stove top avocado mac & cheese with our house made pepper jack cheese sauce and cilantro.” I didn’t know if I would like it, I like avocado but in mac and cheese??? It is actually delicious it had just the right amount of spice from the pepper jack cheese and the cilantro gave it the final touch. The macaroni were cooked to perfection and it had a good amount of sauce.
Also ordered my favorite calamari. ” Fried Calamaris: Breaded & seasoned calamaris fried to perfection paired with marinara sauce & cilantro mayonnaise.” I was not impressed just plain simple fried calamari. It was not fresh calamari. The breaded was well seasoned and had a very good taste and the marinara was fresh. I didn’t really taste the cilantro. Overall, good but not amazing and too firm for my liking.
For main entrée we order the ” Sesame Crust Seared Tuna” Seared sliced fresh tuna with sesame seed crust, served in a Ta Ta Ki sauce & seaweed salad. The tuna was fresh and very well made. The seasoning was perfect and cook medium well, very nice. Also ordered the ” Grilled Ribeye” it came accompanied with bacon & cheese mashed potatoes and a side of sauce for the steak, it was sort off like a chimichurri sauce with a kick of spice but very mild. I ask for the steak medium well. As the waiter approached the table it smelled amazing. It was delicious, soft, juicy, and cooked to perfection. The mashed potatoes was good, I think all it was missing was a little of cheese but tasted very good.
Desert
“Dulce de Leche Crepe” I love Dulce de Leche so I loved these. They were well made just did not like the vanilla ice cream too much. It was more like a sorbet.
” Triple Shot” super cute presentation, I adored the little shot glasses. It had a small scope of vanilla ice cream (same type of ice cream. I was not creamy at all) with a small piece of chocolate cake and a shot of liquor on the bottom. It was a sample of Hennessy, Grand Marnier and Carmel Liquor. This last was the only one I liked the other shots were way to strong and changed the taste of the cake. Maybe a spirit drinker would have enjoyed it more than me. Having the cake (didn’t like the ice cream) separate from the liquor was much better. I liked the Dulce de Leche crepe much better.
In conclusion, the restaurant was great, I can’t believe it was not packed (nor was it packed at 9pm when we left). The food was great, surprisingly delicious twist to old classics and a very good drink selection.
It is affordable and for all prices ranges with great offers as a prix menu that included a drink and it was I believe around $20, happy hour with roll the dice, and late night menu, they also have brunch and executive lunch.
Price for appetizer range from $8 – $24; entrees (including salads and sandwiches/burgers) $7 – $29; desert $6 – $8; All signature drinks $12.
Can’t wait to go back and try something else.
